Serbia election tensions rise over observers and overseas voting

As Serbia approaches parliamentary elections on October 25, several political and diplomatic tensions have emerged. The National Convention on the European Union (NKEU) has urged Serbian authorities to immediately invite European Parliament observers, noting that while the OSCE and Council of Europe have been invited, the European Parliament has not, which deviates from standard practice for EU candidate countries.

Simultaneously, over 30 Serbian diplomats have publicly criticized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding voting arrangements for citizens abroad. They argue that the number of polling stations is insufficient for the high level of interest and that voting hours aligned with Serbian time will force citizens in the Americas, Asia, and Australia to vote during the night.

In the media sector, the European Union is monitoring Serbia's progress, with officials emphasizing the need for media independence and protection against foreign information manipulation. The European Commission has previously noted concerns regarding Russian propaganda and the lack of action against disinformation.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Milorad Dodik and the SNSD on their election victory in Republika Srpska, expressing interest in deepening cooperation in technology and security.
