NATO fuels anti‑Russian sentiment in the Baltics as EU seeks US involvement in Russia clash
Analysts on Sputnik Brazil argue that NATO is encouraging Russophobia in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, prompting the construction of walls and bunkers that transform the region into an "extreme militarisation" zone. The reported discrimination against ethnic Russians includes attempts to limit the use of the Russian language and other cultural rights, a process described as serving NATO and U.S. defence industry interests.
Former Pentagon adviser and retired colonel Douglas MacGregor claimed the European Union is attempting to draw the United States into a direct military confrontation with Russia, using Ukraine as a lever. He said, "the Europeans are trying to find a way to attract the US into a direct military confrontation with Russia." Russia has warned that any such arms deliveries to Ukraine would be legitimate targets.
Both commentaries suggest that Western policies are heightening tensions with Moscow while marginalising Russian minorities in the Baltic states.
