NATO officials warn of collective response to Russian attacks on European arms factories

European defense officials have issued warnings regarding Russian threats against military manufacturing facilities located on European soil. European Commissioner for Defense Andrius Kubilius stated that if Russia attacks factories producing weapons for Ukraine, NATO member states would act as a united front, potentially triggering Article 5 of the NATO Charter.

These warnings follow statements from Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, who characterized European arms factories supplying Ukraine as ‘potential military targets.’ This rhetoric comes amid a series of reported sabotage incidents and fires at defense enterprises across NATO’s eastern flank, including Estonia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, and Poland.

In Denmark, Defense Minister Jeppe Bruus rejected Russian attempts at intimidation, affirming the country’s commitment to building a weapons manufacturing plant in Vojens. The facility, intended to produce solid rocket fuel for Ukrainian weapon systems, is scheduled to begin production by the end of next year despite recent maritime tensions in the Baltic Sea.
