Germany pledges 1.3 billion euros in aid during Kyiv visit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz conducted an unannounced visit to Kyiv to reaffirm Germany's support for Ukraine amid escalating Russian attacks. During the visit, Merz announced a significant aid package exceeding 1.3 billion euros. This includes 1 billion euros in military assistance and 350 million euros dedicated to repairing Ukraine's energy infrastructure ahead of winter.

Germany and Ukraine also signed 15 cooperation agreements valued at over 8.5 billion euros, focusing on security, defense production, and procurement. A key component of this cooperation involves the joint production of interceptor drones designed to counter high-speed Russian jet-powered drones. The agreements also cover satellite technology and long-range munitions.

The visit occurred as Kyiv faced intensified Russian strikes, including a drone attack that damaged the Northern Bridge and hit the National Academy of Sciences. Meanwhile, German intelligence officials warned that Russia is conducting a 'shadow war' against Germany, involving sabotage, disinformation, and potential hybrid threats to NATO members.
