NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte pledges defense of all member territory

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has affirmed that the Alliance is prepared to defend every centimeter of its member territories. During a visit to Estonia, Rutte emphasized that while Russia remains a long-term security threat, there is currently no evidence suggesting that Russia is planning an immediate attack on any NATO member.

Rutte noted that NATO is closely monitoring security developments and will react to any increase in military forces. He characterized Russia's hybrid activities in Europe as an indicator of weakness and stated that the Alliance has prepared defense plans and deployed land forces along its eastern flank.

The Secretary General also referenced warnings from U.S. General Alexander Grynkevych, who stated that an attack on a member would result in the destruction of both the attacking forces and the systems that support and manage them. Rutte added that NATO's responses to hybrid threats may not always be announced publicly and may not always be symmetrical to the actions taken.
