NATO security concerns rise over potential Russian provocations

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has warned that Russia may attempt to test NATO's resolve through limited acts of aggression rather than a full-scale conventional invasion, which is currently assessed as highly unlikely. Potential scenarios include missile, drone, or aerial attacks, as well as limited operations within the Baltic states.

Such actions could be designed to probe NATO's determination and attempt to prevent the effective implementation of Article 5 collective defense mechanisms. In Latvia, the status of over 160,000 non-citizens is cited as a potential pretext for Russian intervention. Recent diplomatic movements, including visits by U.S. intelligence officials to Moscow and Riga, have heightened concerns regarding the security of NATO's northeastern flank.
