NATO to announce tens of billions in defense deals at Ankara summit

NATO Secretary‑General Mark Rutte said the alliance will present defense contracts worth tens of billions of dollars at the July 7‑8 NATO summit in Ankara. The deals are meant to boost production of military equipment, reduce bureaucratic barriers and support the alliance’s goal of spending 5 % of GDP on defence by 2035.

Rutte warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that NATO is ready to “respond to every foolish move” and affirmed continued support for Ukraine, stating, “Our security is interlinked. Ukraine has shown that Russian aggression will not stop us.” He also pledged up to €70 billion in aid to Ukraine this year and highlighted a “strong signal” to Russia from the summit’s announcements.
