Lithuania Ready for NATO Troop Boost if Russian Provocations Escalate

Lithuanian President's adviser David Matuļonis said NATO allies are prepared to deploy additional troops and air‑defence systems to Lithuania if a critical security situation arises due to possible Russian provocations in the Baltic Sea region and elsewhere in Europe. He warned that threats could include false‑flag operations and diversions, stressing that no country, even those supporting Ukraine, is immune to such risks. Matuļonis dismissed the likelihood of a full‑scale Russian invasion of a NATO member as extremely low, but noted that Latvian, Lithuanian and Polish leaders have cited Western intelligence warnings about Russian plans to target regional infrastructure.

The statement underscores NATO’s commitment to collective defence while highlighting heightened alertness to hybrid threats in the Baltics.
