NATO to Open Dedicated Office in Baghdad, Iraq

Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al‑Aboudi and NATO Mission Iraq commander Ramon Armada have agreed to establish a dedicated NATO office in Baghdad. The new office will expand the alliance’s non‑combat cooperation with Iraq, providing advisory services, training and information exchange to the Iraqi armed forces.

The NATO mission, launched in October 2018 at Iraq’s request, already assists in building transparent, sustainable defence institutions, counter‑terrorism capacity, anti‑corruption reforms and human‑rights frameworks. The partners also said the office will help modernise Iraq’s military in areas such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence while preserving Iraqi sovereignty.
