NATO viewed as a tool for global military integration
Peter Koenig describes NATO as a military extension of the European Union and a protector of globalization. The organization aims to link Western nations, the ‘Five Eyes’ intelligence alliance (comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States), and Japan through shared military strategies and equipment.
This expansion is noted to provide NATO with an immediate presence in the Pacific. In Asia, countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam are described as following US and NATO directives, with Vietnam elevating its relationship with Washington to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023.
In Latin America, a shift toward conservative governments has been observed between 2024 and 2026, affecting nations including Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama. In Peru, following the election of Keiko Fujimori in June 2026, the government ordered 24 new Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 70 fighter jets.
