NATO's Cavo Dragone warns of rising hybrid security threats
Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, President of the NATO Military Committee, has warned against political attempts to deny or downplay evolving security threats. He characterized the current global climate as a state that is no longer one of full peace, noting that the line between peace and conflict is narrowing.
Cavo Dragone highlighted the August 4 explosive drone incident in Leipzig, Germany, as a significant qualitative escalation in hybrid warfare. Germany has officially attributed this hybrid attack to Russia. The Admiral noted that such incidents, alongside GPS interference, cyberattacks, and sabotage at energy facilities, demonstrate a pattern of testing security thresholds.
He emphasized that while ambiguity remains a primary weapon in hybrid warfare, the increasing frequency and military quality of these incidents make the global equilibrium increasingly fragile.
