Natthaphong questions urgency of 400 billion baht loan bill

Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, leader of the People's Party and opposition leader, has expressed skepticism regarding the government's proposed 400 billion baht loan emergency decree. He specifically questioned the necessity and urgency of allocating 200 billion baht of that sum toward energy transition projects.

Natthaphong argued that energy transition is a long-term process that does not require immediate massive government borrowing. He suggested that alternative funding sources, such as private sector investment, state enterprises (including the three electricity authorities), and various existing funds, could be utilized instead of increasing national debt.

While acknowledging that the government likely holds a sufficient majority to pass the decree, Natthaphong emphasized the opposition's duty to scrutinize whether the loan is truly essential for national security or urgent necessity as defined by the Constitution. He warned that government debt ultimately becomes a burden for future generations.
