Natuna prosecutors appeal sentence for former official in child molestation case

The Natuna District Attorney's Office (Kejari Natuna) has officially filed an appeal against the sentencing of Junaidi, the former sub-district head (Camat) of Pulau Tiga Barat. The Natuna District Court sentenced Junaidi to 1 year and 8 months in prison for the molestation of a minor.

Prosecutors had originally sought a 4-year prison sentence. Aditya Syaummil Patria, Head of Intelligence at Kejari Natuna, stated that the appeal was filed after prosecutors closely reviewed the judge's decision, concluding that there are strong legal grounds to seek a re-examination at a higher court level to ensure justice.

The case dates back to early 2026, when Junaidi was detained following investigations into the sexual abuse of a minor. While the prosecution respects the initial ruling, they are exercising their legal right to pursue a more significant sentence through the appellate process.
