Natural disasters cause housing damage in Colombia and Mexico
Severe weather and environmental issues have caused significant property damage in Colombia and Mexico. In Vistamar, Puerto Colombia, coastal erosion exacerbated by heavy rains and strong waves has caused the collapse of 20 homes, leaving an additional 10 residences at high risk. While local authorities have begun installing rock armor to mitigate wave impact, community leaders state this is a temporary measure and are calling for the construction of jetties to provide a permanent solution.
In San Pedro de las Colonias, Coahuila, intense rainfall has damaged approximately 100 homes and one school. The flooding affected multiple neighborhoods, including Miguel Hidalgo and Fonhapo. Local authorities reported that while structural damage was widespread, no injuries were recorded. Emergency services have provided temporary shelter for displaced residents, and civil protection units continue to monitor the affected areas.
