Natural disasters in Colombia and Nepal cause high casualties

President Abelardo De La Espriella has provided an updated casualty report following a major earthquake in Colombia. The disaster has resulted in 331 deaths, 4,497 injuries, and 152 missing persons. The impact spans 497 municipalities across 16 departments, affecting approximately 452,782 citizens. Infrastructure damage is extensive, with 35,987 homes destroyed and 198,601 damaged, alongside significant hits to schools, health centers, and transport networks.

In Nepal, recent flooding has caused the death toll to rise to 939. While the number of missing persons has decreased to 639—largely due to updated counts of workers in hydroelectric projects—592 foreign nationals remain unaccounted for. Prime Minister Balendra Shah confirmed that the government is providing financial assistance through a relief fund, which has received approximately 38.59 million USD in donations.

Both nations are managing large-scale rescue and recovery operations involving thousands of security personnel and international aid efforts.
