Natural Fling targets Group 1 Moir Stakes at Sandown

Three-year-old filly Natural Fling is set to compete in the Group 1 Moir Stakes this Saturday at Sandown. Trained by the partnership of Tony and Calvin McEvoy, the filly enters the 1000-metre weight-for-age race as a $3.60 favourite despite drawing an outside barrier.

Natural Fling will carry a light weight of 50kg with jockey Jamie Melham. The decision to enter a young filly against established sprinters is considered a calculated risk, though trainer Tony McEvoy expressed confidence following her recent four-length victory in the Quezette Stakes.

The race field consists of 13 horses, dominated by eleven mares and fillies. Other notable competitors include Giga Kick, the highest-rated horse in the field, and Rothfire. This year's event is being held at Sandown-Hillside because the traditional venue, Moonee Valley, is currently undergoing reconstruction.
