Natural History Museum of Macedonia celebrates 100 years

The Natural History Museum of Macedonia will mark its centenary on October 26, celebrating a century of scientific research and the preservation of the country's natural heritage. To commemorate the milestone, a formal academy will be held at the Macedonian National Theatre, where plaques will be awarded to collaborators, institutions, and companies that have contributed to the museum's development.

Founded in 1926, the museum currently houses approximately 400,000 specimens covering geology, paleontology, botany, zoology, and entomology. These collections document the geological past, flora, fauna, and biological diversity of the region.

In addition to its scientific mission, the museum plays a key role in education by promoting natural sciences and environmental awareness among younger generations. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has allocated a special budget this year to modernize the museum's facilities and improve how its collections are presented to the public.
