Natural household remedies offer alternatives to chemical products

Various natural household remedies offer cost-effective alternatives to commercial chemical products. One method involves mixing equal parts of dried, crushed pine needles with coarse sea salt. Because pine needles contain antibacterial essential oils and salt acts as a preservative, this mixture can serve as a moth repellent or air freshener.

To combat odors in footwear caused by bacteria and moisture, several home remedies are suggested. Baking powder, sodium bicarbonate, or baby powder can be distributed inside shoes overnight to absorb moisture and neutralize smells. Other methods include placing airtight-sealed shoes in a freezer for 24 hours to kill odor-causing bacteria, or using coffee grounds to neutralize scents.
