Natural landscapes and landmarks in Güvercinlik Valley and Harz

The Güvercinlik Valley features a rugged path winding through volcanic rock formations between Göreme and the Uçhisar mountain fortress. The landscape is characterized by tuff walls shaped by ancient volcanic eruptions from Erciyes and Hasan Dağı, featuring pigeon houses carved into the stone and dramatic overhangs created by wind erosion.

In Germany’s Harz region, various lakes and dams serve as major tourist attractions. The Oderteich, an old reservoir built without mortar using granite sand, historically supported local mining. The Rappbode Dam, standing 106 meters high, is a central part of the East Harz dam system, providing flood protection and drinking water for approximately 1.5 million people. The area is also home to the Titan-RT, the world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge at 458.5 meters.
