Natural methods and prevention for household pantry pests
Pantry moths, also known as flour moths, are common kitchen pests that feed on dry goods such as flour, sugar, cereals, and semolina. These insects can be introduced into homes via store-bought products and reproduce rapidly, causing significant damage to food supplies.
To combat infestations, experts recommend regularly cleaning cupboards with white vinegar, removing contaminated food, and using airtight glass containers, as moths can penetrate cardboard and plastic. A natural repellent method involves placing bay leaves inside cupboards or food jars. Bay leaves contain compounds like cineole, which act as a deterrent against these insects.
General household pests often originate from outdoor areas, including lawns, gardens, and mulch, which provide food, water, and shelter. Identifying entry points near foundations, doors, and windows is a key step in managing pest presence within a home.
