Severe drought and water scarcity impact Europe, Bolivia, and Central America

Multiple regions are experiencing severe drought conditions driven by extreme heat and lack of precipitation. In Europe, major rivers including the Rhine, Danube, and Po have reached historic lows, threatening navigation, agriculture, and energy production. Low water levels in the Danube have caused power disruptions in Serbia and Romania, while Hungary's nuclear plant operates at reduced capacity.

In Spain, water scarcity has led to nighttime supply restrictions in Poio and prompted local governments to offer aquatic recreational activities to combat rising temperatures. In Bolivia, the drought in Toledo is impacting livestock producers and families, forcing the use of water cisterns to prevent significant herd losses.

Central American nations are also facing challenges, with authorities in Honduras warning that prolonged dry seasons could lead to water shortages and food insecurity across numerous municipalities. Scientists emphasize that climate change is increasing the intensity and frequency of these extreme drought events by accelerating evaporation and drying out soil and waterways.
