Another durable alternative is greywacke sandstone, which may be more effective for sloped yards. While concrete blocks are often cheaper, costing roughly $20 to $35 per square foot installed, natural stone walls average between $30 and $50 per square foot. However, natural stone may offer better long-term value due to its ability to withstand temperature changes, constant pressure, and freeze-thaw damage that can cause concrete to deteriorate.
