Natural substances and blood sugar management
Research is exploring the potential of certain natural substances to assist in blood sugar management, though experts urge caution regarding their use as medical replacements.
Aloe vera supplements have been linked in some studies to lower glucose levels and improved insulin sensitivity. Specifically, Aloe ferox has shown potential in reducing fasting glucose levels. However, researchers note that results are not yet consistent enough to classify aloe as a diabetes treatment. Individuals already taking glucose-lowering medication should consult a physician, as combining these substances could lead to excessively low blood sugar levels.
Similarly, the combination of green tea and cinnamon is a popular health trend. While green tea contains compounds that may assist in sugar processing and cinnamon may help the body respond more effectively to insulin, scientific evidence remains limited. Most studies on green tea involve extracts rather than standard brewed tea, and there is currently no conclusive evidence that the two work more effectively together than separately. Experts emphasize that small amounts of cinnamon added for flavor are unlikely to cause significant changes in blood sugar.
