Natural swimming spots in France offer relief from summer heat

During periods of high summer temperatures, several natural locations in France offer varying water temperatures for relief. Near Toulouse, rivers fed by Pyrenean snowmelt, such as the Touch and the Save, maintain lower temperatures due to their mountain origins and forest cover. The Gorges de la Save have recently reopened to the public, providing access to cool limestone canyon basins.

In the Alps, Lac d'Aiguebelette in Savoie offers a different experience. As the third largest natural lake entirely within France, it features water that can reach 28°C in summer. To preserve its tranquility, thermal motorboats are prohibited on the lake. Other high-altitude options, such as the Étang de Lers in Ariège, provide cooler water due to slower evaporation and cold spring feeding at elevations above 1,000 meters.
