Poland: Safety warnings issued for autumn road and hiking conditions

Authorities and police in Poland are issuing safety warnings as autumn weather conditions change. Drivers are advised to be cautious of reduced visibility due to fog, rain, and low sun, as well as slippery road surfaces caused by wet asphalt and fallen leaves. Police emphasize the importance of maintaining safe distances, adjusting speeds, and using proper lighting. Pedestrians and cyclists are strongly encouraged to use reflective elements, noting that traveling without reflectors outside built-up areas is both dangerous and subject to fines.

In mountainous regions like the Beskids, hikers face increased risks from sudden fog, which can reduce visibility to less than 200 meters, and slippery, muddy trails. Experts warn that autumn moisture can lower perceived temperatures by 3–6°C, increasing the risk of hypothermia. Additionally, hikers are advised to plan for shorter daylight hours and potential GPS signal degradation in deep valleys.
