NaturaSì launches campaign to support wheat farmers

The NaturaSì group has launched a national campaign titled ‘20 cents today to have bread tomorrow’ to support wheat farmers facing unsustainable production costs. The initiative asks customers to contribute an additional 20 cents per kilogram of bread to support the agricultural supply chain.

According to the group, current market prices are insufficient for farmers to maintain operations. Data from Istat indicates that between 2006 and 2025, soft wheat production fell by 21.4%, while durum wheat production decreased by 9.3%. Additionally, the number of Italian agricultural companies dropped by 42% between 2003 and 2023.

NaturaSì is already paying farmers higher rates than the Bologna Stock Exchange quotes, offering between 7 and 12 cents more per kilo for soft and durum wheat, and 4 to 7 cents more for spelt. The campaign aims to protect food sovereignty and ensure the long-term viability of wheat cultivation in Italy amidst rising fuel and production costs.
