Nature conservation groups in Germany host bat education events

Various nature conservation organizations in Germany recently hosted educational events focused on bat populations. In Bochum, organizers held a ‘Night of the Bats’ featuring guided tours for children and adults. Despite some rain, participants observed various species, including pipistrelle and pond bats, at the Botanical Garden.

In the Mühldorf district, the BUND Naturschutz organized a children's holiday program in Waldkraiburg. Led by expert Dr. Andreas Zahn, more than 30 participants used bat detectors to listen to ultrasonic calls. The event highlighted the local colony of serotine bats, which represents the largest occurrence in the district. Experts noted that over 400 animals were counted this spring, indicating a slight increase compared to previous years. These bats typically reside in the area from mid-August to late April before migrating to breeding grounds, sometimes as far as Poland.
