Nature photography and seahorse conservation highlighted in Galicia

A new photography exhibition titled ‘Fauna esencial’ is opening at the Avenida Cultural Center in A Rúa, Spain. The exhibition, featuring 28 photographs by naturalist Ezequiel Martínez, showcases iconic Iberian Peninsula wildlife including the brown bear, imperial eagle, and griffon vulture. The project aims to combine artistic value with educational outreach, providing biological details and conservation challenges for each species.

In the Vigo estuary, researchers from the Institute of Marine Research (IIM) are conducting intensive monitoring of a significant seahorse colony. The Hippo Dec project is working to identify individuals of Hippocampus guttulatus and Hippocampus hippocampus to better understand their habitat and implement conservation measures. This effort follows the recent classification of the long-snouted seahorse as a vulnerable species in Spain.
