Nature Protection Operation at Chiemsee and Simssee
On Saturday, 25 July 2026, a joint nature‑protection operation was carried out around the Chiemsee and Simssee lakes in Bavaria. The action involved the police, prosecutors, nature‑conservation authorities, the Bavarian police training institute, the Chiemsee Ranger, fishery supervision and other agencies, and was coordinated by the Police Inspection Prien with support from nearby police units and three water‑police boats.
The operation focused on safeguarding sensitive habitats, informing visitors and enforcing the Chiemsee protection ordinance. Officers conducted land and water patrols, including a sweep of the Krautinsel. Over 70 violations were recorded: 23 cyclists were warned to dismount, seven fines were issued for unauthorized stays in protected zones, 20 place‑bans were handed out, two fishery breaches were reported, three dog‑leash warnings were given, 25 people were warned for illegal nude bathing at the Rottspitz in the municipality of Übersee, two litter‑removal orders were issued, and several parking and traffic infractions were noted. The enforcement received a largely positive response from the public.
