Nature Walks Cut Stress and Depression, Study Shows
A large-scale study of more than 10 million people, published in *Nature Human Behaviour*, found that spending just 10‑15 minutes a day in green spaces—such as parks, forests, or by the sea—rapidly lowers stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms while boosting positive emotions. The research showed that the brain stops treating natural settings as a threat, resulting in slower heart rate, relaxed muscles and a calmer nervous system.
Experts say the benefits do not require a full‑day retreat; a short “mindful walk” without a phone, focusing on sights, sounds and sensations, is enough. Complementary advice includes reducing screen time, paying attention to bodily signals, and incorporating small daily rituals like gratitude notes or soothing music to further alleviate mental fatigue.
