EDP posts 3% profit rise to €732 million and pledges stable electricity prices
The Portuguese utility EDP reported net shareholder profit of €732 million for the first half of 2023, a 3% increase year‑on‑year. EBITDA rose 5% to €2.73 billion, driven by growth in its network and renewable‑energy businesses, while EBITDA from flexible generation fell 5%.
EDP said it will keep retail electricity prices unchanged for its customers until the end of the year. In the first half, the group invested €550 million in electricity networks in Portugal and Spain, a 24% rise over the previous year, citing a more favourable regulatory framework. The company’s market share in Portugal stood at 59.1% of customers and 38.6% of consumption.
CEO Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade highlighted that the network sector is now a key growth driver and reaffirmed commitment to the United States market, where EDP Renováveis continues to expand.
