Naturkost Erfurt enters restructuring proceedings

Naturkost Erfurt, a major organic food wholesaler, has applied for restructuring proceedings under self-administration. The Erfurt District Court has already approved the application.

Managing Director Thomas Hölscher stated that the company aims to secure a long-term future through this process, potentially by bringing in a new partner or joining a partner network. The company continues its full business operations, accepting and delivering orders as planned, and remains open to new customers.

The financial difficulties are attributed to a combination of rising costs and declining sales. The company reported being affected “in a double sense”: facing higher prices for organic foods and operating materials, while simultaneously experiencing reduced orders from customers who are also struggling with rising costs and consumer restraint.

Naturkost Erfurt employs approximately 65 people across locations in Erfurt, Thuringia, and Schkeuditz, Saxony. While wages are secured through insolvency money until the end of November, the company intends to be positioned to cover salaries from ongoing business operations starting in December.
