Nauhany Silva reaches US Open Junior round of 16
Brazilian tennis player Nauhany Silva has advanced to the round of 16 at the US Open Junior championships. The 16-year-old, seeded 8th, secured her place in the tournament following the withdrawal of British player Daniella Britton after the second set.
Silva’s campaign began with a significant victory in the first round, where she defeated American Olivia Traynor 7/6 (5), 6/3. This win ended a 24-year drought for Brazilian women in the singles draw of the US Open Junior Grand Slam, with the last Brazilian victory in this category occurring in 2002 by Marina Tavares.
In her second-round match against Britton, Silva took the first set 6/4 before losing the second set in a tiebreak. However, Britton retired before the start of the deciding third set, granting Silva advancement. Silva is scheduled to face the 11th seed, Felitsata Dorofeeva-Rybas of Russia, in the next round.
