Naumburg opens new World Heritage Center at the Cathedral

A new World Heritage Center has opened at the Naumburg Cathedral in Germany to serve as a gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage region of Saale-Unstrut. Located in the historic, newly renovated Bischofskurie (former episcopal curia) directly opposite the cathedral, the center aims to make the area's cultural history accessible through modern, interactive exhibitions.

The renovation of the historic building, which dates back to the 12th century, cost between 12 and 13 million euros, funded primarily by federal and state governments. The facility includes an information service, ticket sales for the cathedral, barrier-free guided tours, and a redesigned garden. The center features a blend of old and new, with preserved historical elements such as ancient wall paintings visible alongside modern design.

Cultural officials noted that the center is intended to act as a regional landmark that connects the cathedral to its broader cultural landscape. To mark the opening, the center is offering free admission for three days.
