Naunhofer Straße implements new roundabouts for traffic calming

Two new provisional roundabouts have been installed on Naunhofer Straße to improve traffic calming and safety. The project utilized prefabricated components to ensure a fast and cost-effective implementation, totaling 267,000 euros. This approach was chosen over a full reconstruction due to time and financial constraints.

Michael Jana, head of the Mobility and Civil Engineering Office, noted that the roundabouts are particularly important for cyclist safety, as previous changes to Prager Straße did not yield improvements for riders. The roundabouts also provide a solution for bicycle traffic in the opposite direction following the conversion of Schönbachstraße and Ludolf-Colditz-Straße into one-way streets.

With the completion of these roundabouts, the flanking measures related to the Prager Straße expansion in the Stötteritz and Probstheida districts are now finished. In the coming months, the city also plans to install sidewalk extensions, known as 'Gehwegnasen', at the intersection of Naunhofer Straße and Kommandant-Prendel-Allee to shorten pedestrian crossing distances and improve visibility.
