NAV begins disability benefit settlement amid rule changes

NAV, the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, is beginning its annual settlement process for disability benefits this October. This process involves cross-referencing tax information to ensure recipients received the correct amounts based on their side income. Depending on the results, individuals may receive additional payments or be required to repay funds.

Simultaneously, significant rule changes regarding disability benefits are approaching. For approximately 250,000 recipients who have been on disability for at least two years, the income threshold (fribeløp) will increase from 0.4 G to 1 G. This change allows individuals to earn more through employment before their benefits are reduced. While the new threshold applies to the 2026 income year, the current October settlement process focuses on the previous year's income.
