NAV begins sending tax account notifications to 1.8 million people
The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has begun sending tax account notifications to approximately 1.8 million individuals and sole traders starting August 10. These notifications, sent via electronic or postal mail, indicate whether the recipient has an outstanding tax debt or an overpayment.
Notifications are being issued to those with debts exceeding 5,000 HUF or overpayments greater than 1,000 HUF, provided they have not yet received information regarding late payment interest this year.
To manage these balances, taxpayers can use the Client Portal (Ügyfélportál) or the NAV-Mobil application. For debts, taxpayers may request payment relief, such as deferral, installment plans, or reduction. Individuals can also request automatic 12-month installment plans. For overpayments, taxpayers can submit a request for a refund or a transfer to other tax liabilities via the Client Portal.
