NAV conducts summer tax inspections across Hungary

The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) is conducting a series of summer inspections across Hungary, focusing on the tourism and service sectors. Between July 1 and August 3, authorities conducted 1,480 inspections in high-traffic tourist areas, including Somogy, Veszprém, and Zala counties. Out of these, 316 cases (over 21%) revealed irregularities, marking a slight increase compared to the previous year.

Common violations include failure to issue receipts, improper use of cash registers, and employment irregularities such as undeclared or late staff registration. Inspectors have also examined seasonal services like SUP and quad rentals, taxi services, and the payment of tourism development contributions. Violators face significant penalties, including fines of up to two million forints and potential temporary business closures.

Planned inspections for August will expand to various locations and sectors. Scheduled targets include beaches, ice cream parlors, markets, restaurants, butcher shops, and stationery stores across several counties, including Baranya, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Tolna, Nógrád, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, and others. The oversight will continue through the end of the season to ensure fair market competition.
