NAV tax inspections around Lake Balaton reveal 21 percent irregularity rate

The National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) conducted over 2,300 inspections around Lake Balaton during the summer season, uncovering irregularities in 21 percent of the cases. The audits targeted businesses and service providers in tourist areas, events, and catering establishments.

Common violations identified included failure to issue invoices or receipts, undeclared employment, and the improper use of online cash registers. To select targets, authorities utilized data-driven risk analysis involving online invoice data, information from online cash registers, and employment records, supplemented by on-site observations.

Specific enforcement actions included monitoring sellers on social media platforms like Facebook who offered products without tax numbers, and undercover inspections of services advertised online, such as off-road tours, where providers failed to issue required documentation. The NAV stated that the primary goal of these operations is to promote compliance and protect businesses that operate fairly.
