NAV uncovers unregistered luxury goods business in private Facebook group
The Hungarian National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has uncovered an unregistered luxury goods business operating within a private Facebook group. An administrator was found selling high-end items from brands such as Gucci, YSL, Calvin Klein, Nike, Ralph Lauren, Valentino, and Celine.
To expose the operation, a tax inspector personally purchased a Celine baseball cap for 110,000 HUF. The seller failed to provide a receipt or invoice for the cash transaction and lacked a valid tax identification number. Subsequent investigations into the individual's bank accounts revealed over 46 million HUF in transfers from private individuals, which authorities believe are linked to these sales.
The seller reportedly sourced the luxury items from second-hand platforms like Vinted and other used clothing stores. The individual faces significant omission fines, tax audits, and potential interest penalties. NAV has issued a reminder that tax regulations apply to all commercial activities, including those conducted within private social media communities.
