Navacant sells 126 MW battery storage portfolio to BW ESS

Spanish renewable energy developer Navacant has sold a 126 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) portfolio to BW ESS. Known as ‘Proyecto Sorolla’, the portfolio is located in the Valencian Community and consists of two independent storage projects with symmetric grid connection capacities of 99 MW and 27 MW, respectively. Together, they offer a combined storage capacity of up to 675 MWh.

The projects are currently in an advanced stage of development, with an expected ‘ready to build’ status in 2027 and commercial operation slated for 2028. Navacant will continue to participate in the remaining development phase alongside its partner, CST Energy, to leverage their expertise in BESS promotion.

Advised by JLL, the transaction highlights the increasing maturity and attractiveness of the Spanish battery storage market to international investors. Such infrastructure is becoming critical for maintaining grid stability and flexibility as Spain integrates higher volumes of intermittent renewable energy.
