Naval forces conduct maritime exercises in South America

Naval forces from several nations are conducting maritime exercises to enhance interoperability and security coordination. In the Beagle Channel, the 25th edition of the Viekaren exercise has commenced in Puerto Williams, involving the Navies of Argentina and Chile. This joint operation, framed by the 1984 Treaty of Peace and Friendship, focuses on maritime safety, environmental protection, and emergency response. Participating Argentine vessels include the ocean patrol ship ARA ‘Contraalmirante Cordero’, the fast boat ARA ‘Indómita’, and patrol boats ARA ‘Clorinda’ and ARA ‘Baradero’. The Chilean Navy is represented by the patrol ships ARCH ‘Isaza’ and ARCH ‘Sibbald’, along with the general service boats ARCH ‘Alacalufe’ and ARCH ‘Hallef’.

Separately, the Colombian Navy has deployed the frigate ARC ‘Almirante Padilla’ to participate in the 67th edition of the UNITAS multinational naval exercises hosted by Peru. The vessel, carrying over 110 personnel, is traveling from the Caribbean to the Pacific Ocean to join a multinational force that includes the United States. These exercises aim to improve joint response capabilities across various naval warfare scenarios, including coordination between ships, aircraft, and expeditionary forces.
