Navantia and L&T partner for Indian Navy amphibious ship program
Navantia and Larsen & Toubro (L&T) have signed a memorandum of understanding in Madrid to collaborate on a strategic bid for the Indian Navy’s upcoming amphibious warfare ship program. The partnership aims to provide four landing platform docks (LPD) to support India’s amphibious operations, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief missions.
The proposal will leverage Navantia’s expertise in designing and constructing large surface vessels, specifically citing the Spanish ship ‘Juan Carlos I’ and the Australian ‘Canberra’ and ‘Adelaide’ classes as technological benchmarks. This collaboration seeks to combine L&T’s engineering and shipbuilding capabilities with Navantia’s specialized naval design experience to foster greater industrial autonomy within India’s maritime sector.
