Navantia completes AIP system tests for S-83 submarine

Navantia has successfully completed testing of the Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system for the S-83 ‘Cosme García’ submarine. The tests, which began in June, utilized a specialized test bench to simulate real-world conditions including depth and speed. This technological advancement is designed to allow the Spanish Navy's submarines to remain submerged for extended periods without needing to surface.

In a related development regarding the S-80 program, maintenance records for the S-81 ‘Isaac Peral’ show that repair costs exceeded one million euros over the past year. The Spanish Ministry of Defense reported that over 900 maintenance tasks were performed, including 27 corrective repairs resulting from incidents at sea. The Navy stated that these corrective repairs represented only 3% of scheduled reviews, which was significantly lower than the initial 20% estimate.
