Navarra Association launches robotics olympiad to increase accessibility

The Association of Robotics and Artificial Intelligence of Navarra (ARIANA) has introduced the Navarra Robotics Olympiad, a new league designed to democratize access to educational robotics. The initiative aims to remove common barriers found in established circuits, such as high equipment costs, expensive licensing fees, and the need for months of advanced preparation.

The first event, titled ‘Robots vs Zombies’, is scheduled for November 21 in Orcoyen. It is open to children aged 6 to 14 from across Navarra, with the organization providing the necessary materials. Organizers noted that while robotics has gained traction in schools, interest often wanes when students are limited to repetitive tasks without sufficient progression or resources.

This new model contrasts with existing programs like the FIRST LEGO League and the World Robot Olympiad, which often require significant financial investment for seasonal sets, event fees, and specialized hardware.
