Navarra commemorates 90th anniversary of Tafalla mass executions
Commemorative events were held in Navarra to mark the 90th anniversary of the 'saca de Tafalla,' the largest collective massacre recorded in the region. Organized by the Altaffaylla Foundation with local government support, the tribute included a floral offering at the Piedra de la Memoria, where the names of the 64 victims were read aloud.
The ceremony also featured the inauguration of two commemorative plaques. One plaque, located in the La Peña neighborhood, honors women who suffered repression under the Franco regime, including those subjected to public humiliation and exile. The second plaque, placed on Misericordia Street, honors three local councilors—Cipriano Sola, Saturio García, and Pedro Martinena—who were among those executed during the events of 1936.
In related historical remembrance, the Salamanca Memoria y Justicia association also highlighted the stories of those executed at the San Carlos Borromeo cemetery. This included the final letter of Pedro Miñana Regadera, the secretary of Béjar, who was executed alongside eleven others 90 years ago.
