Castilla y León records worst summer of the decade with 34 road deaths

Castilla y León has recorded its deadliest summer in a decade, with 34 road fatalities reported during the summer period. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska presented the national traffic accident balance, noting that out of 240 total deaths recorded across Spain, 34 occurred on the roads of Castilla y León.

This figure marks the worst summer balance for the region since 2016, when 38 deaths were recorded. Data indicates a rising trend in road fatalities in recent years: 22 deaths were recorded in 2023, 30 in the summer of 2024, and 32 in 2025. Due to its extensive road network and geographic position, Castilla y León remains one of the regions with the highest number of road deaths, currently ranking second in Spain, following Andalucía which recorded 38 fatalities.
