Navarra police warn of WhatsApp scams targeting families

Cybercrime, specifically WhatsApp impersonation and iPhone hacking, has become one of the most frequent offenses in Navarra. According to the Computer Crimes Group of the Policía Foral, scammers are increasingly targeting parents by posing as children living abroad who claim to have lost or had their phones stolen.

These criminals exploit human psychology by creating a sense of urgency, often requesting immediate money via Bizum or bank transfers to resolve supposed emergencies. Another common tactic involves scammers posing as individuals in need of urgent deposits for apartment rentals. Authorities note that attackers often target older devices or systems without updated operating systems to infiltrate chats and identify contacts like ‘mom’ or ‘dad’ to execute these psychological manipulations.
