Navarre football clubs face high costs from league changes

Several football clubs from Navarre are facing significant financial strain due to unexpected changes in league groupings. Three teams from Segunda RFEF—Osasuna Promesas, Tudelano, and Peña Sport—along with three youth División de Honor teams—Osasuna, Oberena, and Valle de Aranguren—have been placed in groups with Catalan teams rather than Basque teams.

This shift necessitates much higher travel expenses due to overnight stays required for away matches. Peña Sport president Felipe Palacios estimates the change will cost the club an additional 40,000 euros. Oberena is facing an even more difficult situation; its football director, Joxeja Goñi, noted that the club will travel an extra 6,000 kilometers compared to last season, causing their budget for the section to multiply fivefold. The clubs reported being caught off guard by the decision, which disrupted their prior organizational planning.
