Naveen Patnaik supports CJP leaders detained in Delhi

Odisha opposition leader Naveen Patnaik has voiced support for Kokroch Janata Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, who are currently in Tihar Jail. The leaders were detained in Delhi for allegedly hoisting the national flag in a restricted area without permission on October 13. Patnaik called for an immediate review of their judicial custody, stating that prolonged detention for such an incident is unjust and could undermine faith in the rule of law among the youth.

In legal developments, the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction with states and union territories for failing to report on the implementation of its ruling that menstrual hygiene is a fundamental right under Article 21. The bench questioned how such rights would be realized if the court's directives remain merely on paper.

Additionally, the Indian government has directed Meta to review its recommendation systems and content ranking on Facebook and Instagram. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued advisory measures to prevent the spread of misinformation and violent content, emphasizing the need for accuracy regarding the date, location, and context of public event media.
